Easy and Fun Math

My kinders love playing with these linking cubes, usually just building instead of something wonderfully academic. Soooo... I decided to make these Count and Stack cards.  They simply have to identify the numeral on the picture and make a stack of that many cubes.  When the card is full they can play with the cubes, their favorite part. (surprise)  I made them for the entire year and have 2 levels for differentiating the activity.  I have it in my TPT store. Go over and check it out.

What are we doing this Fall

This is my favorite time of year so far.  My kinders have our routine down and we can do some fun stuff without my constant correction.  The freedom makes our days go so much better.  In Math we have been talking about measurement so i gave them a piece of yarn and let them explore the room and document their findings.  This student labeled their picture without my prompting. WOW !!!

Each month we will create a way to display words we are learning.  They made this tree by tracing and cutting out their hand, then using precut leaves (if they cut them they may be too small to write on )  Next time we're going to try for a turkey with word feathers, and....... hopefully they will write some sentences with the words.  I'll try to share that later.  What are you doing for fun?

Getting into the Routine

Routines are set.  We're moving on at a pretty fast pace, but it's going as smooth as expected. Yes, there are meltdowns, me and them, but I'm blessed to have a good bunch of kinders and a fantastic Para. These are some of the things that we have mastered so far.
This is the first year I have used Interactive Notebooks and I'm loving it.  After 22 years of Kindergarten I still love the excitement of doing something new.  We have been doing ABC Bootcamp (from Kindergarten Smorgasboard) and we have pages for each letter.  This is our first sorting activity we have put in it, they did it all.  Isn't it GREAT!!!  How do you use the Notebooks?

We do Math Tubs following the lesson everyday.  This independent time has proven to be helpful in so many ways.  My favorite is that it gives me time to work 1-1 with each student on a skill while everyone else is engaged; and they get to choose whatever they want to work on.

Fall Math

I've been to Target again.

They had these great table scatters in the $$ spot.  Leaves, acorns and pumpkins, I think I see ten frames coming out of this computer pretty soon.  I only wish I had found them sooner.  Have you found anything great lately?

Making Tens

My littles love this activity when I get it out.  We've been working on ten frames for months and this is just an extention.  I have numbers between 20-99 on cards for them to choose and lots of egg cartons that I have cutinot ten frames.  they choose a number, use manipulatives and fill the ten frames to create that number.  I put this in a center and it gives me a chance to work with them on this skill.  I use my center time for my tutor and I to work independently with them on skills they are having trouble with.  This is one they all want to get to.  I leave it out for the rest of year.  How do you work with your class on this skill?

more Math fun

So many blogs have such great downloadables that we always have something fun and new to do.  This pumpkin roll and color sheet came from one of them.  I still cannot figure out how to upload sheets that i create and then connect them to my blog so if any of you could explain this in simple form i might get it.  I've tried googledocs and scribd.

Before i found the ghost erasers they only had to put the ghosts, the came from a notepad, in order; now they get to count out the right number of ghosts with each one.

They love using the erasers for counters.

The geoboards have come back out .
